The Artists of Legacy Modern

When Legacy Modern got started we focused primarily on mid century furniture like credenzas, dining tables, and sofas. However, over the the years, the store has evolved. While we're always on the hunt for great mid century finds from around the world, we have shifted our focus to provide a fuller shopping experience for our customers that includes art. We've worked hard to procure a collection of work, from local artists and beyond that compliment the furniture we sell. Below is a quick peek at the artists we have on the floor currently.

We're always looking for more to artists to showcase. If you're interested in selling your art in our store, please feel free to email  info@legacymodern.com for more information! We'd love to see your portfolio!

Gus* Modern has arrived at Legacy Modern!

Recently we’ve brought on some exciting new partnerships to help enhance your shopping experience. One of the biggest expansions to our store is the introduction of Gus* Modern! We’re happy to be partnering up with a company that believes quality and style go hand in hand!

We were thrilled to be scouted by Gus*. When they approached us earlier this year, we felt their items were a good match for our store, and we were eager to move forward. After a lot of phone calls, emails, and a quick flight to North Carolina, we had landed a great deal with a great company.

Gus* Design Group is a furniture design and manufacturing company based in Toronto, Canada. The company was started by some like-minded friends who shared a passion for design, and had a vision to create an exclusive line of modern furniture that would continue Mid-century traditions, emphasizing originality, functionality, simplicity, and a focus on materials and craftsmanship. Today, the in-stock Gus* Modern Collection includes upholstery, beds, dining, storage, lighting, and accents, and is available at authorized furniture showrooms worldwide. Gus* has become a favorite choice of interior designers, architects, and design-minded consumers.

The new inventory arrived this week! We’re slowly getting items out on the showroom, so be sure to stop by the store this weekend, and have a look at all the new inventory! You can also shop more Gus* Modern products here.

Legacy Modern welcomes Tappen Studios!

Working with local artists is one of the great things when it comes to owning your own home furnishing store. Being able to support the art community and build strong working relationships with artists has proven to be beneficial to them, and for us. Our customers are always looking for the perfect piece of artwork for their home, and being able to provide a space for artists to showcase their work is a rewarding feeling. Over the last month we've brought in some great Portland artists and we're thrilled to welcome Tappen Studios to our repetroire.

Tappen Studios has an array of artwork from large scale pieces to small ones. If you're looking to add some color and pzazz to your walls, you'll find just what you're looking for at Legacy Modern.

As you can see, the wild colors and shapes of these pieces pair well with our Mid Century and Industrial items.

Tappen Studios is located at 211 SE Madison St. in Portland, OR. On top of creating great paintings they also offer workshops teaching how to make Kokedama and macrame plant holders! Learn more about this Portland treasure on their website

Featured Item of the Week: Terra Cotta Olive Oil Jars

According to Eye of the Day, "olive oil jars are one of the classics of Greek pottery design and is still used as storage, especially in Greek homes to store the family olive oil.  In ancient Minoan culture, both liquids and cereals were stored in these large terra cotta pots, but they were also used as low-tech air conditioners by filling them with water in hot weather which would then evaporate, causing a cooling effect."

See decorating ideas below.
